Odgovornost se začne takoj, ko vstopi hišni ljubljenček v naše življenje. Poleg osnovnih obveznosti, kot so hrana, sveža voda, zavetje in osnovna zdravstvena oskrba, je naša odgovornost tudi, da sporočimo veterinarju, ko se njegovo življenje konča in da s pokojnikom ravnamo z ljubeznijo in s spoštljivostjo.
Če pri kužkih nastopi smrt doma, mora lastnik to sporočiti pooblaščeni veterinarski postaji. Smrt kužka mora pisno ali po elektronski pošti javiti v roku 30-ih dni. Lastnik mora vrniti tudi potni list. Potni list se uniči in se ga shrani. Na željo lastnika se lahko uničen potni list vrne njemu.
Lastnik lahko za odjavo psa uporabi priporočen obrazec za odjavo.
